Getting Involved: Ongoing and Historical Initiatives
At the YMF, we strive to build a community that is resilient and beneficial to its members as well as the world around us. Join us and even lead your own initiatives to bring value to the San Bernardino and Riverside areas. By joining others's initiatives, you can show your support and add fuel to their fire - showing how much of a team player you are. By leading your own initiative, you can develop the skills that come with starting a movement from the ground up! A good opportunity to show and develop your tenacity, resourcefulness, and industriousness.

The President
The role of the President is to preside over the Forum. Through ambition and grit, a President can lead the YMF and coordinate its members to accomplish many achievements. Alternatively, the President can take a more passive role by fostering, encouraging, and supporting the YMF's members as they work towards their own goals. Either way, the role should be taken seriously. Like the role of a Civil Engineer with respect to the public, the President presides to serve the Forum and bring value, stability, and growth to its members.
Learn more about the President's Role through the bylaws:

The Executive Board
At the core of the YMF is the Executive Board comprised of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, President-Elect, and Past President. Together, they maintain the primary functions of the YMF and support each other as the challenges of work and life ebb and flow. See the official requirements of the Executive Board in the SB/R Bylaws noting that this represents only the bare minimum of what is expected of the officers. As with the President's role, E-Board members may promote, collaborate, and act on their own initiatives to bring value to the YMF.
As of June 2026, the roles of President-Elect, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer are being advertised for the term of 2026-2027. If you have an interest in joining the board, see the link below to submit your application.

The Chairmen and the Board of Directors
A thriving YMF relies on the hard work of many officers. The Chairmen positions are created by the President to encourage individuals who want to promote their own initiatives or support the YMF in a meaningfull way without the full throated commitment of being an Executive Officer. Together, the Chairmen and Executives form the Board of Directors and have their own authorities and responsibilites - albeit more limited than those of the Executives. See the SB/R Bylaws for more details.
The Chairmen, more so than the executives, have more time to focus on their specific goals and can commit as little or as much time to accomplish those goals as they may require. For example, common chair positions are that of a Social Media Chair or a Webmaster. With some minimal coordination, social media pages and the YMF website can be managed effectively. On the other hand, there are more ambitious and demanding roles like Strategic Initiatives Chair and K-12 Outreach Chair that are a lot more involved. SB/R YMF hosts an annual event called Engineer's Day (or E-Day). At this event, the YMF coordinates with local agencies, engineering groups, and historical societies to bring the Girl Scouts from the underserved region of San Gorgonio to a day of exposure to the Civil Engineering world! It's a day packed with tours, presentations, and activites for the girls so that they begin to realize that not only is the world of Civil Engineering all around them, but also that their pathway to a career in the industry is very achievable and we are here as a resource to help them through it.
